![]() ![]() ![]() (John Early is a treat, and his chemistry with Meredith Hagner doesn’t go unremarked upon or under-utilized. Elliott is still the most fascinating of the four, as his unrelenting repression via obsession is bucked both by circumstance and his own body. Portia remains amiably self-centered, and her primary concerns are as spot-on as they are surprising. The internalized guilt of all four leads proves fascinating (and damn funny) to behold as it bursts out in various ways, for various reasons. The following five episodes are called “Conspiracy,” “Paralysis,” “Suspicion,” “Paranoia,” and “Obsession,” with each half-hour very specifically engaging with its respective title theme. This cast is so strong together, it would be a crime to divvy them up, and the writers wisely find an adhesive plot point to keep them together.) (Most importantly, it bonds the foursome in a way that guarantees they won’t be separated throughout the season. The first episode is titled “Murder!” and it tracks the group’s immediate efforts to deal with what happened. Picking up right where it left off, creators, writers, and directors Sarah Violet Bliss and Charles Rogers craft their second season around the trauma felt following Keith’s death. The hunters have become the hunted, and it turns out that works just as well. The core four aren’t kids trying to solve a mystery anymore they’re trying to keep a mystery from being solved. Season 2 is the same savvy, searching series it was in Season 1 it’s just reversed the formula. ![]()
